Modoya CHE Garden Project

I visited this same site about a month ago and it is amazing how drastic it has changed it such a short time.  When I came the first time I met the CHE committee group in charge of the garden project and saw the almost empty site they planned to plant their garden.  In just a few weeks they have been able to get the area fenced off and they have hundreds of small seedlings planted and growing healthily.  The CHEs have planted onions and kale seedlings and have plants for more vegetables in the future.  The onions are currently laid out in the ground like in a standard garden we would see at home so are some of the kale plants.  Other kale plants are planted in sack planters to save space.  While at Modoya this second time with Reuben, one of the CHE trainers, and a few of the CMF interns we were all able to take part in helping the CHEs weed and transplant into a sack planter.

Below are a few pictures of the garden and us helping in the little ways we were able.

This is the sack planter before the kale plants have been transplanted into it.  There are stones all the way down the middle of the sack surrounded by soil.  The stones work as a way to evenly water throughout the sack.
